Book Covers for Tattersall Publishing

Cover illustrations by Rebekah Wells;
composition and typography by Crystal Wood.

For her own book, Crystal wanted an illustration of the "Cat Lady" "coming out of the closet." Rebekah delivered in grand style, and earned many points from Crystal for making her much thinner!

The author's favorite color of purple is used to good effect here.

About the Book

The author wanted her cookbook to be unique among the hundreds already on the shelves, and requested it be in "landscape" aspect. Crystal chose the colors and typestyles to coordinate with those in the logo for the chef's "branding" and product line, which features fresh salsas and preserves.

About the Book

  Front cover photo by Jonathan Reynolds;
back cover photos by Kerri Burnside; composition and typography by Crystal Wood.

Jonathan went "on location" to Denton (Texas) Fire Station No. 5 to capture this portrait of the author in front of the fire engine. The hardest part of the "shoot" was getting Randy to smile! The back cover features a composite of photos of real fire scenes and paramedics in training by action photographer Kerri Burnside.

About the Book

Composition and typography by Crystal Wood.
This striking cover began as a stock photo of a microscope slide showing a gene sequence. Crystal added the stylized DNA double helix in complementary colors. A nice touch for the finished cover was the embossing of the title and author's name.

About the Book

Morton Salt's "When It Rains, It Pours" girl got a backwards extreme makeover for this cover, which paraphrases that familiar slogan. (The actual printed colors are much closer to the Morton Salt package.) The unexpected butterfly is a recurring motif in the book.
