Using Lisa's beautiful, adoring dog illustration, Crystal added updated title graphics to freshen up the cover of this reissued second edition. On the back is a new illustration of a cat, to emphasize that "Fido" is a symbolic name for any beloved companion animal.

Tthe author's son sketched a cover suggestion using photos of pets known by their family. Crystal took it from there, superimposing the pets over a background of the signatures of revered theologians such as John Wesley and Pope John Paul II.
